About the role#
Harmony United Psychiatric Care offers a hands-on internship program for individuals interested in starting a career in the mental health field. This program provides foundational training in medical office operations within an outpatient setting. Participants receive mentorship and practical experience, concluding with a certificate of completion after finishing 600 hours of service. This is an unpaid, voluntary internship.
What you'll do#
Interns work under supervision to support daily clinic operations. You will learn to handle professional phone etiquette and schedule patient appointments. Your duties include managing patient flow in the waiting area and performing front desk tasks like faxing, filing, and copying. You will gain exposure to Electronic Health Record systems, medical terminology, and the basics of insurance billing. A core focus of the role is maintaining HIPAA compliance and ensuring patient privacy at all times.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- Motivation to build a career in healthcare.
- Willingness to undergo a background check and drug screening.
- Interest in fields such as Psychology, Nursing, Public Health, or Health Administration is preferred.
