About the role#
This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in food safety, quality systems, and dairy manufacturing. You will support quality documentation, safety initiatives, audits, and improvement projects. You will also spend two weeks working directly at cheese and whey manufacturing plants to observe quality processes in action. This role provides insight into how safety and quality programs support daily manufacturing operations.
What you'll do#
- Update and maintain Quality Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and other quality documentation.
- Partner with plant teams to keep the documentation database accurate.
- Support Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) initiatives through research and program development.
- Identify and implement programs that strengthen food safety and quality systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support quality and safety objectives.
- Assist with product testing and evaluations related to positive hold and release initiatives, including sample coordination and data analysis.
- Participate in farm and facility tours, networking events, and volunteer opportunities.
What you'll need#
- Current Junior or Senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, Nutrition, Biology, Agriculture, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
- Effective analytical and communication skills.
- HACCP certification.
- Basic statistics knowledge is desirable.
- FSMA PCQI training is preferred.
- Involvement in campus organizations, volunteer work, or off-campus employment is preferred.
