About the role#
This internship within the CDS AI Research Center provides an opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects at the intersection of data science and drug development. You will work alongside Clinical Operations, Data Engineering, and AI Research teams to solve complex quantitative problems. The role is a full-time, 10-12 week commitment scheduled between May and August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement stochastic optimization models to support drug portfolio composition, investment allocation, and go/no-go decisions.
- Investigate advanced optimization approaches to improve the scalability of decision-support models.
- Build and evaluate predictive models to forecast clinical trial enrollment and support study planning.
- Translate quantitative analyses into actionable recommendations for cross-functional teams.
- Validate models against historical trial data to ensure interpretable outputs.
- Present your work at the conclusion of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA, JD, or PhD program in Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mathematics.
- Continued full-time enrollment for the Fall semester following the internship.
- Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8.
- Independent authorization to work in the United States now and in the future.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Familiarity with multistage stochastic programming and algebraic modeling languages like Pyomo or Gurobi.
- Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks such as XGBoost, LightGBM, Keras, Pytorch, or Scikit-learn.
- Exposure to clinical trial operations, adaptive trial designs, or healthcare data is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and manage competing priorities.

- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Duration: 10-12 consecutive weeks, full-time.
- Compensation: Paid internship with a range of $20.00 - $55.00 per hour.
