About the role#
General Dynamics Electric Boat offers a summer internship for students interested in finance and contract management. You will work alongside professionals on projects related to submarine innovation for the U.S. Navy. Each intern receives a dedicated mentor to help navigate internal management and control processes. This is a full-time, on-site position.
What you'll do#
Your work will vary based on your assigned team, which may include accounting, audit, contract management, or program finance. Responsibilities include:
- Analyze data and manage budgets.
- Track incurred costs, including labor and accounts payable or receivable.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports.
- Review and validate internal procedures and controls.
- Support audits conducted by external groups.
- Provide system and user support for business information systems.
- Assist with the management and negotiation of contracts and change orders.
- Prepare estimates and bids.
- Forecast labor, capital, and equipment requirements.
- Develop forward pricing rates and manage financial reporting.
- Operate the Earned Value Management System.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Management Information Systems, Economics, or Math.
- Completion of at least two academic semesters and your freshman year by May 2027.
- Minimum age of 18 and U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May and September 2027.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Experience or coursework in data management, including Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, PowerBI, ETL software, SQL, or programming languages like Javascript, Visual Basic, or C.
- Familiarity with corporate financial statements and federal acquisition policies.
- Ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Responsibility for your own housing and transportation.

- This internship is located in Connecticut, with placements in Groton, New London, or North Stonington.
- The role is on-site and full-time.
