About the role#
General Dynamics Mission Systems is hiring a Technical Writer Intern to join our team in Manassas, Virginia. This role focuses on supporting defense programs by producing clear, accurate technical documentation. You will work alongside subject matter experts to translate complex information into formats that meet strict military specifications.
What you'll do#
- Write and edit technical documentation across multiple formats, including PDF, HTML, and XML.
- Maintain documentation through established lifecycles, including review and update cycles.
- Create supporting graphics, such as functional block diagrams, to clarify procedures.
- Perform quality assurance to verify both technical and grammatical accuracy.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure your work meets project requirements.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited degree program, preferably in English or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with a focus on meticulous detail.
- Ability to research unfamiliar technology and summarize it for end-users.
- Understanding of business principles.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as this role involves eligibility for access to classified information.
- Experience with XML editors, graphic design principles, or repository-based content management systems like TortoiseSVN is a plus.
