About the role#
This is a paid, full-time Geology internship for the Fall 2026 term. You will work directly with exploration geologic staff on various projects, splitting your time between office tasks and field work. This position is based on-site in Morenci, Arizona, and may offer immigration sponsorship for qualified candidates.
What you'll do#
- Log drill cuttings and core samples to identify rock types, copper mineralization, alteration, and acid consumption.
- Map pit walls and digitize geological maps and cross-sections.
- Create sample labels and manage lab submissions using computerized data systems.
- Load lab results into relational databases and validate geological codes.
- Coordinate the submittal of standard reference materials and duplicate samples.
- Evaluate lab accuracy and precision through routine comparisons.
- Compile project data including geochemical, geophysical, and mapping information.
- Provide general support to the district exploration and geology departments.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program or higher in Geology or a related field, or graduation within the 12 months prior to the start date.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Clear oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and instructions.
- Capability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform physical tasks like climbing stairs or ladders.

- Pay: $28.25 to $35.25 per hour, depending on education and experience.
- Requirements: Must pass mandatory pre-employment drug testing.
