About the role#
The Nurse Technician (RN Student) provides basic patient care and supports activities of daily living under the close supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will help with the personal needs and comfort of patients in the Oncology department while gaining clinical experience. This role follows established guidelines to ensure quality care and efficient hospital operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Record vital signs, weights, and oxygen saturation levels, reporting any changes to the nursing staff.
- Help patients with bathing, feeding, hygiene, and mobility needs.
- Change bed linens and keep patient rooms and nursing stations orderly.
- Assist physicians during examinations, treatments, and special tests.
- Collect and transport patient specimens to the laboratory.
- Retrieve medications from the pharmacy or pneumatic tube system as directed.
- Perform clinical procedures consistent with your current level of nursing education under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Participate in quality improvement programs and use hospital resources efficiently.
- Monitor and report behavioral or psychological changes in patients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Registered Nurse program (Junior or Senior level) with completion of Med/Surg clinicals, or an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program with at least one semester completed.
- Good standing within your nursing program.
- Completion of basic patient skills training.
- Valid BLS Certification.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Communication, computer, and customer service skills.
