About the role#
Flex is seeking an Industrial Engineering Co-Op for the Fall 2026 term to support continuous improvement initiatives at our Orangeburg, South Carolina site. This role provides hands-on experience in process optimization, data analysis, and lean manufacturing within a high-tech warehouse environment. You will report to the Senior Engineering and Business Excellence Manager and work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance fulfillment and server assembly operations.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and improve fulfillment workflows, including material flow, packaging, and shipping processes.
- Support assembly and testing operations for servers, with a focus on cycle time reduction and quality improvement.
- Collect and analyze production data, such as HPU, throughput, and takt time, to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions.
- Participate in layout design and optimization for assembly and test stations.
- Develop standard work instructions and contribute to process documentation.
- Collaborate with Quality, Production, and Logistics teams to implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Conduct time studies, ergonomic assessments, and assist in capacity planning and KPI tracking.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior in an Industrial Engineering degree or related major at a 4-year accredited university.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement principles.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or similar data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic understanding of server hardware components.
- Knowledge of process mapping and value stream analysis.
- Experience with simulation tools like Arena or FlexSim is considered an asset.
