About the role#
Flex is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to join the team in Hollis, New Hampshire, for the Winter 2027 term. This role offers exposure to the full product development lifecycle, including concept generation, design for manufacturing, prototyping, and technical documentation. You will work under the guidance of an Engineering Manager to apply your academic knowledge to real-world medical product challenges.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the development of diverse medical products, ranging from home health wearables to surgical robotics.
- Conceptualize, investigate, and develop innovative product architectures, mechanisms, and assemblies.
- Create robust design solutions using SolidWorks, analysis software, and laboratory equipment.
- Assemble and test prototypes to inform design decisions and demonstrate performance.
- Collaborate with industrial design, electrical, user interface, and human factors teams.
- Participate in multidisciplinary brainstorming sessions and build electro-mechanical assemblies to refine process flows.
- Develop assembly and test tools, document test results, and present design recommendations to internal teams and clients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 4-year accredited university studying Mechanical, Biomedical, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering.
- Standing as a 2nd or 3rd-year co-op student with applicable mechanical design experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks for creating high-quality CAD databases.
- Basic machine shop skills, including experience with mills and lathes.
- Experience designing, setting up, running, and documenting experiments in a lab setting.
- Familiarity with engineering simulation software such as MathCAD, Excel, FEA, or CFD.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to use freehand sketching to convey ideas.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.

- Term: Winter 2027 (January through June).
- Modality: This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, on-site position.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
