About the role#
Five Star Bank is hiring a Commercial Credit Summer Associate for the Summer 2027 term. You will work with the Commercial Credit team to learn the underwriting and portfolio management process. This role provides exposure to credit decision-making and senior leadership while working on projects that support our commercial lending operations.
What you'll do#
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow projections for commercial borrowers.
- Prepare credit memos and risk assessments for loan approvals and renewals.
- Attend loan committee meetings to observe credit decision-making.
- Work with Relationship Managers and Credit Analysts to understand client needs.
- Monitor loan portfolios to identify potential risk indicators.
- Research industries and markets to support credit analysis.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field, preferably with junior-level standing or higher.
- At least 1 year of experience in clubs, volunteer work, or other extracurricular activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling is a plus.
- A self-starter mindset with attention to detail and a desire to learn.
- Ability to demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid position.
- The work modality is hybrid.
- Locations include Rochester, NY and Buffalo, NY.
- Occasional travel within the corporate footprint is required.
