About the role#
The Field Engineering Intern provides hands-on support to Waterworks project teams. You will assist Field Engineers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents with daily operations on water and wastewater construction sites, including treatment plants and pump stations. This role offers exposure to construction management and jobsite operations.
What you'll do#
- Support daily field operations, production tracking, and work planning.
- Assist with material take-offs, quantity tracking, and verifying installed work.
- Interpret construction plans, specifications, and layouts for water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Participate in basic surveying, including learning layout, measurement techniques, and elevations.
- Support jobsite safety through Job Hazard Analysis, safety observations, and compliance tasks.
- Manage project documentation such as daily reports, field logs, and as-builts.
- Track labor, equipment, and material usage.
- Communicate with field crews, engineers, and inspectors to support work execution.
- Use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word to complete engineering tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Science.
- Interest in water and wastewater construction and field-based work.
- Professional communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Moderate computer skills using Microsoft Office.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity on an active jobsite.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- A basic understanding of construction math is preferred.
