About the role#
ITASCA Consulting is hiring a geomechanics intern for the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, on-site position based in our Minneapolis office. You will work on consulting projects involving geologic and geotechnical data analysis, machine learning, and numerical modeling. The role may require up to two weeks of travel for fieldwork.
What you'll do#
- Organize, review, and interpret geologic and geotechnical data.
- Apply machine-learning methods to project workflows.
- Prepare inputs for numerical models and conduct sensitivity studies.
- Compare model results against field observations.
- Document assumptions and results for technical reports.
- Create figures, tables, and summaries for project presentations.
- Collaborate with engineers and consultants on project deliverables.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in geological, geotechnical, civil, or mining engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to work on-site in Minneapolis for the full duration of the internship.
- Willingness to travel for up to two weeks and adjust work hours when project needs arise.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

- Pay: $22 to $28 per hour.
