About the role#
The Sarasota Summer Community Organizing Fellow will work with the Field Department to mobilize grassroots support and advance pro-equality policies. This is a paid, part-time fellowship requiring a 12-hour weekly commitment. The role is hybrid, consisting of virtual work supplemented by in-person event attendance.
What you'll do#
- Identify local progressive and LGBTQ events to increase organizational visibility.
- Recruit and train volunteers to support field initiatives.
- Build relationships within the community and collect stories to support advocacy efforts.
- Mobilize members to attend various field events.
- Collaborate with the Field Organizer to manage and participate in in-person events.
- Assist in efforts to secure the approval and passage of pro-equality policies.
What you'll need#
- Experience or skills in event planning and community organizing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with strangers and individuals with diverse political viewpoints.
- Passion for advancing LGBTQ+ rights and supporting LGBTQ+ Floridians.
- Access to a reliable smartphone and laptop for daily tasks.
- Availability to work occasional weekends and weeknights.
- Pursuing or holding a degree in fields such as Political Science, Sociology, Communications, or Human Resources.
