About the role#
The Sarasota Summer Community Organizing Fellow will work with field staff to engage in grassroots outreach and campaign-style election mobilization. This role focuses on building local support for pro-equality policies and opposing policies that harm the LGBTQ community. This is a paid, part-time fellowship requiring a 12-hour weekly commitment.
What you'll do#
- Identify local progressive and LGBTQ events to increase organizational visibility.
- Recruit and train volunteers to support field initiatives.
- Build relationships within the community and collect personal stories.
- Mobilize membership to attend field events.
- Manage and participate in field events alongside the Field Organizer.
- Assist in the efforts toward the approval and passage of pro-equality policies.
What you'll need#
- Experience or skills in event planning and organizing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a high-intensity work environment.
- Comfort speaking with strangers and individuals holding diverse political views.
- A passion for advancing LGBTQ rights and supporting LGBTQ Floridians.
- Access to a reliable smartphone and laptop for daily tasks.
- Availability to work occasional weekends and weeknights.
- Relevant academic background in fields such as Political Science, Sociology, Communications, or Human Resources.
