About the role#
Equality Florida is hiring three Communications Fellows to support our mission of securing full equality for the LGBTQ+ community. This fellowship focuses on shaping public narratives, educating communities, and mobilizing support through strategic messaging and storytelling. You will work under the direction of the Deputy Director of Communications to combat misinformation and highlight the impacts of anti-LGBTQ legislation.
What you'll do#
- Craft compelling messages that build bridges across diverse communities.
- Assist in creating social media posts, graphics, and other digital assets.
- Develop educational content to combat misinformation and explain the impacts of anti-LGBTQ legislation.
- Track and analyze engagement metrics to improve communications strategies.
- Support community outreach efforts to amplify diverse voices.
- Help create content that connects LGBTQ+ issues to broader values of dignity, respect, and fairness.
- Support the development of press releases, statements, and other external communications.
- Collect and document personal stories that highlight shared values and the impact of discriminatory policies.
What you'll need#
- Experience or education in communications, journalism, marketing, political science, English, or related fields.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Basic graphic design skills or a willingness to learn.
- An understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and a commitment to equality.
- Ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 7, 2026, to November 13, 2026).
- Schedule: Part-time, 15 hours per week for 12 weeks.
- Location: Remote, with possible in-person events as needed.
- Compensation: Paid position ($15/hour, or $18/hour for South Florida applicants).

It works through lobbying, education, and grassroots organizing to address discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The organization currently employs approximately 73 people.
