About the role#
We are seeking a Product Engineering Intern for the Fall 2026 term. You will support the development and manufacturing of lithium-ion battery systems. This role offers hands-on experience in product design, validation, and manufacturing support. You will work with our engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to improve product performance and reliability.
What you'll do#
- Support the design, validation, and release of battery modules and pack components.
- Assist with performance testing, validation, and failure analysis of battery cells and systems.
- Analyze test data using Excel, MATLAB, or Python to find trends and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to fix production issues and improve processes.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation like BOMs, drawings, test plans, and reports.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
- Support prototype builds and pilot production runs.
- Assist in DFMEA, PFMEA, and design reviews.
- Ensure work complies with safety and regulatory standards for battery systems.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Must be a US Citizen or a valid green card holder.
- Ability to work on-site in Ann Arbor, MI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Basic understanding of lithium-ion battery fundamentals, including electrochemistry, thermal management, and BMS concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with data analysis tools like MATLAB or Python is preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX is a plus.
