About the role#
Duquesne University is hiring a Classroom Aide for the Fall 2026 semester. This is a community service work-study position with Literacy Pittsburgh. You will help adult students improve their English, reading, writing, and math skills. The role involves 10 hours of work per week for a total of up to 150 hours. You will work with the manager of the intern program to determine your specific schedule and responsibilities.
What you'll do#
- Teach, tutor, or serve as a classroom aide for students in ELL, adult basic education, or GED/HSE programs.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction to students.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Complete administrative tasks such as tracking student attendance and progress.
- Attend required training and professional development sessions.
- Potentially select a focus area based on agency needs and your personal interests.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Commitment to the values of Literacy Pittsburgh.
- Ability to attend training provided by the organization.
- Previous experience teaching or working with diverse populations is preferred.
- Majors considered include English, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Public Health, and Human Resources.
Location & details#
- Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Modality: On-site and remote options available.
- Compensation: $15 per hour.
- Schedule: The internship runs from the week of August 24, 2026, through December 22, 2026.
- Classes typically meet Monday through Thursday in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
