About the role#
The Secretary of State’s Business Programs Division is seeking student assistants to support staff with document preparation and public service. This is a long-term position, and we look for individuals who can commit to at least six months to contribute to our department. You will work on-site at our Sacramento office.
What you'll do#
- Research and gather information for Public Records Act requests.
- Process, organize, file, and maintain incoming documents and records.
- Review and validate documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform quality control and data entry tasks.
- Scan and upload documents and images to public websites.
- Track and maintain records in databases.
- Respond to public telephone inquiries and provide assistance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student attending classes during the regular term.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least four-semester units or six quarter units.
- Ability to work at least 16 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Working experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, filing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while following directions.
- Dependability, punctuality, and a flexible schedule.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- A good attendance record.

- Work is performed on-site in an office environment.
- This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited role.
- Employment requires that you live and work in California.
