About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience within the Relay Construction and Maintenance department. You will work alongside Journeymen and Apprentice Relay Technicians to learn technical skills and safety procedures. The role focuses on maintaining protective relays and SCADA control systems to ensure grid reliability.
What you'll do#
- Build an understanding of relaying fundamentals, protective schemes, controls, and alarms.
- Learn to write basic isolation procedures.
- Develop troubleshooting skills.
- Practice methodical thinking to arrange work activities in a logical order.
- Gain knowledge of NERC compliance and the importance of accurate data.
- Study CT and VT circuits, print reading, and the red mark process.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Engineering Technology or related degree program.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
- Graduation date no earlier than August 2027.
- A valid driver license.
- Must be at least 18 years old before starting the internship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is on-site at company facilities in Charlotte, Greensboro, Aberdeen, Raleigh, Leland, or Asheville, NC; Greenville, SC; Plainfield, IN; or Cincinnati, OH.
- This position does not offer visa sponsorship.
- You must be able to lift 50 pounds, work at heights, and wear required personal protective equipment.
