About the role#
This is an 8-month articling position running from September 13, 2027, to May 12, 2028. You will join the Property and Casualty Insurance Defence in-house legal team. This role serves as the experiential training component of the Lawyer Licensing Process for the purpose of being called to the Bar of Ontario.
What you'll do#
- Independently manage a caseload of litigation files from start to finish.
- Handle matters involving auto claims, accident benefits, bodily injury, commercial lines, property, subrogation, and coverage work.
- Support multiple lawyer teams on various files.
- Work on Small Claims Court and LAT matters.
- Draft legal documents and attend proceedings.
- Shadow lawyers to build file-management and client-management skills.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree in law or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- A law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) from a Canadian University or an NCA Certificate of Qualification by the start date.
- Expert proficiency in English.
- Intermediate knowledge of civil litigation, advocacy, and insurance law.
- Advanced intermediate skills in legal research, computer literacy, and word processing.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, hybrid position.
- Locations include Toronto, Mississauga, and Aurora, Ontario.
- Travel between these locations is required for department-wide events and training.
