About the role#
The Accounting Technician role is an entry-level position for Emily Griffith Technical College students who want to start a career in accounting. This role provides hands-on experience with core accounting processes and financial systems. You will support the team with daily transactional work, data entry, and record keeping to build a foundation for your future career.
What you'll do#
- Enter financial transactions, journal entries, and general ledger information into the system.
- Review source documents to ensure they match system entries.
- Organize and maintain digital and physical financial records, such as receipts and invoices.
- Retrieve documents for audits and internal reviews.
- Cross-check transaction totals to find missing or inconsistent information.
- Flag numerical discrepancies or unusual transactions for senior staff.
- Assist with clean-up activities for monthly and year-end close.
- Handle administrative tasks like scanning, indexing, and filing.
- Learn and apply basic accounting procedures and terminology.
