About the role#
The Building Electrical Group at Dennis Group manages electrical systems for industrial food and beverage facilities. As an intern, you will contribute to the design and engineering of power, lighting, and low voltage systems. You will work on multiple concurrent projects, supporting the team from initial planning through construction and startup.
What you'll do#
- Design building power systems including normal, emergency, and standby distribution.
- Perform and document engineering calculations such as load studies, arc flash, and conduit sizing.
- Create bid documents, including layout drawings, one-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Design lighting for food processing areas and fire alarm systems per NFPA standards.
- Develop low voltage systems for LAN, security, access control, and communications.
- Use CAD software to add 2D devices to project drawings.
- Assist with the procurement of electrical equipment like switchgears, transformers, and generators.
- Participate in feasibility studies and project planning.
- Support department standards through research and maintenance of best practices.
- Observe construction progress and assist with field startups.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Access.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
- Understanding of electrical fundamentals including Ohms Law, power system theory, and AC/DC circuits.
- Knowledge of lighting design, fire alarm systems, and low voltage infrastructure is preferred.
- Experience with the National Electric Code, three-phase power, or wireless radio systems is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid position based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The role is on-site with an estimated 25% travel requirement for site visits and audits.
- We are hiring on a rolling basis.
