About the role#
Dennis Group designs and builds facilities for the food and beverage industry. As a Process/Project Engineer Intern, you will work on projects from the conceptual stage through design and construction. You will coordinate with various disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams, to ensure operational efficiency for our clients.
What you'll do#
- Develop process design bases, unit operations, and operation specifications.
- Prepare process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Perform mass and energy balances.
- Size and specify process and utility equipment.
- Handle equipment procurement and bid evaluation.
- Assist project management with scope, budget, and schedule development.
- Coordinate contractor schedules for equipment installation.
- Work with clients and vendors to develop cost estimates and proposals.
- Oversee equipment installations and provide onsite construction start-up and commissioning support.
- Research engineering best practices and support internal talent growth.
What you'll need#
- Junior or Senior status pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Experience with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
- Interest in food safety, sanitary design principles, and industry regulations.
- A motivated and results-oriented attitude.
- Familiarity with P&IDs is a plus, as is previous experience in sanitary environments like food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2027 based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The role is on-site.
- You must be able to lift up to 15 pounds and spend prolonged periods working at a desk.
- This position requires travel for onsite construction coordination and management, estimated at 30-50% of the year.
