About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap designed to prepare you for the role of a Pharmacist. This program provides an overview of store, district, and regional operations while you gain hands-on experience in a pharmacy setting.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap focusing on Key Learning Experiences.
- Assist the pharmacy team with operational tasks and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service and demonstrate empathy in all patient interactions.
- Offer to counsel and field medical questions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and facilitate medication changes where allowed.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as cycle counts and putting away deliveries.
- Coach, train, and mentor pharmacy team members while sharing best practices.
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive team culture.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing.
- Educate patients about vaccines and monitor for adverse reactions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with mathematical reasoning and problem resolution abilities.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to work in your home store and travel to other locations across the market as needed.
Location & details#
- This is a part-time, on-site position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
- The role is paid with a rolling term.
- You must be able to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
