About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world pharmacy operations. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by immersing you in daily pharmacy workflows and patient care.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy teams to ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Follow company SOPs at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service to patients and contribute to positive experiences through empathy.
- Offer to counsel and field medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details where allowed.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members as you gain experience.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns, and stocking deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where allowable.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and document patient information.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- At least 1 year of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to solve problems in patient interactions.
