About the role#
Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center is hiring an intern for the Health Information Management (HIM) department. This role provides administrative and operational support while you gain practical experience in medical record processing and document management. You will work under the supervision of HIM leadership and must follow HIPAA regulations and organizational policies at all times.
What you'll do#
- Prepare, scan, and index documentation into electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Perform quality assurance on scanned documents to verify image clarity, completeness, and correct patient identification.
- Assist with the purging, retention, and secure storage of medical records.
- Update and maintain the provider database, including demographic updates and physician number assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited associate or bachelor’s degree program in Health Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field.
- Students pursuing certificates in Medical Coding, Medical Billing, or Health Information Technology are also eligible.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with office equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to think critically to process tasks accurately.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, on-site internship located in Akron and Fairlawn, Ohio.
- The schedule requires a minimum of 24 hours per month, Monday through Friday.
- This position is part-time and does not offer sponsorship.
