About the role#
The Committee for Public Counsel Services is seeking law students for the Fall 2026 internship program at the Boston PDD Trial Office. Interns work alongside attorneys, social workers, and investigators to provide legal representation to indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in District and Superior Courts. You will receive supervision and training while gaining experience in criminal defense.
What you'll do#
- Conduct client interviews.
- Prepare and present arraignment and bail arguments.
- Perform legal research and draft pretrial motions, affidavits, and legal memoranda.
- Conduct pretrial investigations, including visiting crime locations and interviewing witnesses.
- Argue pretrial motions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all client information and case work.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in law school.
- Successful completion of, or current enrollment in, an evidence or trial practice class.
- Preferred background includes coursework in criminal law, constitutional law, critical legal theory, or trial advocacy.
- SJC Rule 3.03 certification is preferred.
