About the role#
The Children and Family Law Division (CAFL) Boston Office is seeking interns for the Fall 2026 term. Interns work alongside lawyers and social workers to represent children and parents in cases where the Department of Children and Families removes children from their homes due to allegations of abuse or neglect. This unit also provides representation for children and parents in child requiring assistance cases.
What you'll do#
Interns work directly with attorneys, investigators, and social service advocates. Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct client interviews and home or placement visits.
- Perform case investigations to assist with trial preparation.
- Negotiate with opposing counsel.
- Conduct legal research and writing for motion arguments, custody hearings, and termination of parental rights trials.
- Attend and participate in education-related matters, such as suspension hearings and IEP meetings.
- Review pre-trial discovery and case files.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all client information and work performed.
What you'll need#
- A demonstrated commitment to zealous advocacy.
- Access to reliable transportation for travel to courts, client meetings, and investigation sites.
- Access to a personal computer with home internet for remote work tasks.
- Preferred academic backgrounds include Human Resources, Political Science, Psychology, or Criminal Justice.
