About the role#
The Legal Aid Society at Metropolitan Family Services offers an internship for students interested in public interest law and direct services. You will gain exposure to litigation work while supporting our mission to provide equal access to justice for vulnerable families and individuals in Chicago. This is a full-time, paid position for the Summer 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Research case law and legal procedures to support client representation.
- Identify and analyze legal problems to help develop solutions for practice groups.
- Join attorneys during client interviews and negotiations with adverse parties.
- Help prepare legal documents, including motions, discovery materials, and pleadings.
- Maintain client files and work alongside staff to assist a diverse client population.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a JD program.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with attorneys, clients, and team members.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Professionalism and patience when working with diverse clients.
- An interest in public interest law.
- Preference is given to candidates with an Illinois 711 license or those who can obtain one early, as well as those with Spanish language fluency.
