About the role#
Barrett Paving Materials is seeking a Safety Management Intern to join our team in Middletown. This internship provides hands-on experience in construction safety, site compliance, and risk management. You will work alongside safety professionals and site teams to support our safety programs and ensure operations meet regulatory standards.
What you'll do#
- Assist Safety Managers with daily inspections and audits on construction and paving sites.
- Participate in incident investigations and handle related documentation.
- Help implement safety training sessions and toolbox talks for field staff.
- Monitor safety practices to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company policies.
- Maintain safety records, incident reports, and training files.
- Observe site procedures to identify potential hazards or unsafe behaviors.
- Develop and distribute safety communications and educational materials.
- Attend and contribute to safety meetings by reporting observations and improvement suggestions.
- Collaborate with project management, field operations, and HR to support site safety culture.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
- A strong interest in construction, paving, and infrastructure safety.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- You are detail-oriented and proactive.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort working outdoors and visiting active construction sites.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of OSHA or other workplace safety standards is a plus.
