About the role#
This is a 12-month contract position with Korotu Technology, a clean-tech startup focused on monitoring and financing nature-based solutions. The role is part of the Green Jobs Program and includes a clear intent to transition into a permanent position upon completion of the term. You will work with diverse geospatial datasets, including satellite imagery, drone photography, and LiDAR scans, to address environmental questions related to carbon storage, habitat conservation, and wetland health.
What you'll do#
- Work directly with clients from the initial brief through to final delivery.
- Wrangle, clean, and prepare diverse geospatial datasets, including raster, vector, and point cloud data.
- Research, design, and train machine learning models to predict environmental changes and classify land cover.
- Translate successful client-specific solutions into scalable features for the core platform.
- Present findings directly to clients using maps, dashboards, and clear visualizations.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Environmental Engineering, Statistics, or Physics.
- Proficiency with QGIS and ArcGIS for spatial analysis and geoprocessing.
- Strong programming skills in Python for data analysis.
- A solid foundation in statistics and machine learning concepts.
- Knowledge of core geographic concepts, including scale, spatial relationships, and spatial sampling.
- Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years old, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person, and not currently enrolled in an academic program at the start of employment.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Toronto or Vancouver.
- Work is approximately 80% to 90% remote, with regular in-person workshops and team meetings.
- This role is paid at $20 to $24 per hour, with two weeks of paid vacation provided during the contract year.
