About the role#
The City of Ottawa is hiring up to five co-op students to support the Planning, Development and Building Services department. You will work under the direction of a Planner III to assist with various development review activities and city-building projects. This is a full-time, on-site role for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Support long-range land use planning and the City’s long-term infrastructure plan.
- Assist with the management of capital investments and development approvals.
- Help identify opportunities to foster economic prosperity.
- Perform activities related to planning and development review.
- Contribute to major city-building projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrolment in a recognized co-operative education program in urban planning at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Ability to provide proof of enrolment in a co-op program.
- Eligibility for a work term during the Winter 2027 period.
- Familiarity with general land use planning principles, MS Office, and GIS.
- Ability to read plans and interpret air photos and maps.
- Competence in word processing and spreadsheets.
- Strong research and analytical techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to switch between projects.
- Attention to detail and a dependable, flexible approach to work.
- Proficiency in English (oral, reading, and writing).

- Location: City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 35 hours per week.
