About the role#
The Nurse Extern program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a full-time, 10-week summer experience for nursing students. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to assist in the delivery of care to pediatric patients and their families. This role is designed to support your clinical development while you gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the delivery of nursing care under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Assist nursing staff in providing care to pediatric patients and their families.
- Apply the Nursing Process to deliver safe care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Respond promptly and professionally to patients, families, and staff.
- Follow all hospital and departmental policies, including those regarding patient safety and confidentiality.
- Demonstrate technical skills and use monitoring equipment under the guidance of your preceptor.
- Maintain a professional image and ensure the efficient use of hospital resources.
- Identify your own learning needs and seek out necessary education.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an RN program.
- You must be within 12 months of graduation by the start of the program.
- Availability for the full 10-week duration from May 17 to July 23, 2027.
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- CPR certification from an organization that requires hands-on psychomotor skills verification.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
