About the role#
This internship provides clinical training and experience working with Veterans, particularly those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and their families. Interns will develop skills in providing individual, couples, and family psychotherapy with an emphasis on evidence-based care. During the internship, you will be required to pursue training or certification in evidence-based practices such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or Cognitive Processing Therapy.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct clinical services and psychotherapy to Veterans and their families.
- Conduct clinical intake assessments, screenings, and psychosocial assessments.
- Collaborate with caregivers, physicians, clinic directors, and case management teams to coordinate patient care.
- Attend weekly clinical, supervision, and administrative meetings.
- Document progress, referrals, and patient information.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled as a 2nd-year student in a Master’s degree program in social work, counseling, or a related behavioral health field.
- Familiarity with DSM-IV/DSM-V diagnoses, as well as PTSD diagnosis and treatment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with adults, children, couples, and families is preferred.
- An interest in expanding clinical knowledge across a range of modalities beyond individual adult treatment.
