About the role#
The Research Intern joins the Chepurna Laboratory within the Department of Neurosurgery. This position focuses on translational brain tumor research, specifically glioblastoma. You will work under the supervision of Dr. Oksana Chepurna on projects involving cancer immunology, nanomedicine, and in vivo mouse modeling. The role provides hands-on training through structured mentorship, weekly lab meetings, and journal club participation.
What you'll do#
- Support in vitro and in vivo experiments examining the immunomodulatory effects of alternating magnetic field exposure.
- Assist with bone marrow-derived macrophage polarization assays using GL261-conditioned medium.
- Perform flow cytometry for immune profiling, including sample preparation and data acquisition.
- Use GraphPad Prism to prepare statistical analyses.
- Contribute to in vivo immunotherapy experiments, including tumor implantation, treatment, and tissue processing.
- Assist with writing methods and results sections for manuscripts or grant reports.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old and hold a HS Diploma or GED.
- You must reside in the greater Los Angeles area for the duration of the appointment.
- If participating for academic credit, you must receive credit for the entire internship duration.
- Preferred: Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a Bachelor's or Master's program in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
