About the role#
Cartesian is scaling its platform and developing new features to meet product demand. We are looking for a software engineering intern to help integrate with new customers, improve our core platform, and expand our product capabilities. You will work alongside senior engineers and ship code to real customers. This is a full-time, on-site role during the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
At the start of the term, we will define a specific project for you to own and execute. You will provide clarity to ambiguity and iterate on feedback each week. Your work may include:
- Developing interfaces for data and users with international retail brands.
- Modernizing our stack and upgrading our core Postgres platform.
- Building infrastructure for machine-learning development and edge-device sensor data.
- Implementing systems for machine-to-machine credentials and identity access.
- Improving user interactions between our product and the physical world.
- Measuring cloud platform costs to optimize infrastructure and development efficiency.
- Building full-stack test infrastructure across physical devices, mobile, and backend.
What you'll need#
- Strong coding ability with clean, working code and the experience to explain your technical choices.
- Previous experience working in large codebases on a team.
- High curiosity and the ability to learn new concepts quickly.
- High ownership, including the ability to break down tasks with minimal oversight.
- A low ego and a collaborative mindset.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

- Term: Winter 2027 (January 4, 2027 - January 29, 2027).
- Compensation: Paid at $20-25 per hour.
