About the role#
As a backend engineer intern on Team Interstellar, you will design, build, and scale core backend services for Capital One Canada. You will work on production systems that handle high traffic, strict regulatory rules, and large data transformations. You will gain hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, ETL processes, and modern deployment practices while receiving mentorship from senior team members.
What you'll do#
- Write backend code to meet story acceptance criteria.
- Build and maintain high-volume APIs and ETL data pipelines.
- Write automated tests and integrate them into deployment pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and Agile ceremonies.
- Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to implement new system features.
What you'll need#
- You will obtain a Bachelor’s degree or higher from December 2026 or later.
- Familiarity with backend application development and APIs.
- Good understanding of testing fundamentals.
- Good communication, presentation, and writing skills.
- Ability to work within a team setting and actively participate in team discussions.
- Majors considered include Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, and Cybersecurity.

- Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid (3 days in the office per week).
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position (expected annual salary between $45,000 to $85,000).
