    About the role#

    The Department of Apparel Merchandising and Management is hiring Student Assistants to support fall projects. You will work under the supervision of the Administrative Service Coordinator II to help with design, production, and studio operations. This role provides hands-on experience in a professional studio environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Contribute creative ideas and assist with concept development and aesthetic directions.
    • Draft, edit, and prepare patterns using CAD software.
    • Manage digital file setups and plot patterns for production.
    • Cut and sew samples or small-batch products.
    • Participate in garment fittings and apply necessary pattern corrections.
    • Execute garment and merchandise projects using printing, heat pressing, and embroidery.
    • Perform garment finishing tasks such as pressing, hemming, adding closures, and quality checks.
    • Operate studio equipment including sublimation printers, direct-to-garment printers, rotary heat presses, laser cutters, and sewing machines.
    • Support workflow development and training in the Apparel Micro Factory.
    • Manage inventory of supplies, materials, and finished goods.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a student, preferably in Apparel Merchandising and Management.
    • Basic proficiency in patternmaking and garment construction.
    • Familiarity with CAD software such as Gerber, TUKA, Browzwear, or CLO 3D.
    • Ability to operate industrial and domestic sewing machines.
    • Understanding of garment terminology, seam types, and construction methods.
    • Experience with garment printing and embroidery equipment.
    • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage your time effectively.
    • Strong attention to detail regarding pattern accuracy and file organization.
    • Professional communication skills and a willingness to accept constructive feedback.
