About the role#
Bascom Hunter is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to support the development, integration, and testing of software for aerospace and defense applications. You will gain hands-on experience working on real engineering programs, including embedded electronics, communications, control systems, and thermal management. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams across the full software development lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Write, debug, and improve software using Python, C, or C++.
- Use Git-based workflows to manage source code and collaborate with the team.
- Support containerized development using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Assist with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and testing.
- Develop automated tests using unit, integration, and system-level approaches.
- Assist with software and hardware integration, including interfaces to sensors, RF equipment, and embedded computers.
- Maintain technical documentation, such as requirements, architecture designs, and test procedures.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to support integrated development.
- Use engineering ticket systems to track tasks, defects, and project progress.
- Research new technologies and engineering approaches to apply to current projects.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as C, C++, or Python.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with Linux, the command line, or Unix-like environments.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Exposure to software testing concepts, containerization, or DevOps practices.
- Interest in aerospace, defense, embedded systems, or mission-oriented engineering.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- Roles are based on-site in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, or Frederick, Maryland.
- The term is rolling, with flexible start and end dates based on your academic schedule.
