You will work on the development, optimization, and deployment of machine learning models for aerospace and defense projects. This role covers the full machine learning lifecycle, from initial data preparation to production-level inference systems. You will gain experience in edge deployment, model training, and infrastructure management while working on mission-critical technologies.
What you'll do#
- Develop, train, and evaluate custom machine learning models for aerospace and engineering applications.
- Apply optimization techniques like pruning to reduce model size for edge hardware.
- Convert models using formats such as ONNX for deployment outside of Python environments.
- Build inference microservices and transition experimental code toward scalable applications.
- Use Docker to build and deploy containerized applications.
- Develop automation for monitoring model drift, data ingestion, and retraining pipelines.
- Explore machine learning applications for manufacturing defect detection, materials analysis, and image classification.
- Analyze technical datasets including RF, spectrograms, synthetic aperture radar, and sensor data.
- Research emerging AI/ML technologies and document your technical findings and experiments.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve the reliability of AI/ML applications.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Understanding of machine learning concepts like model training, validation, and performance evaluation.
- Familiarity with a framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret experimental results.
- Experience with Git, Linux environments, and collaborative software development.
- Exposure to MLOps tools, containerization, or compiled languages like Go, Rust, or C++ is a plus.
- Interest in edge AI, neuromorphic computing, or signal processing.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- Positions are located on-site in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, or Frederick, Maryland.
