About the role#
Bascom Hunter is looking for an Embedded Software Engineering Intern to support the development, integration, and testing of software for aerospace and defense applications. You will work alongside engineering teams to build software that interfaces with electronic hardware to control and monitor mission-critical systems. This role offers hands-on experience across the development lifecycle, from requirements and coding to hardware integration and troubleshooting.
What you'll do#
- Write, debug, and optimize embedded software using C and C++.
- Develop code for microcontrollers, processors, and embedded computing platforms.
- Support hardware and software integration at the component and system levels.
- Create device drivers, communication interfaces, and control logic.
- Interface software with sensors, actuators, and other system hardware.
- Build test software, scripts, and tools to support verification.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical meetings.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers on integrated solutions.
- Assist with laboratory testing, data collection, and system performance analysis.
- Maintain technical documentation including requirements, test procedures, and reports.
- Apply industry-standard development and configuration management processes.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience programming in C or C++.
- Understanding of embedded systems, computer architecture, and digital electronics.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, or bare-metal development.
- Familiarity with RTOS or Linux environments.
- Knowledge of communication protocols like SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, or Ethernet.
- Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or JTAG debuggers.
- Familiarity with Git, Python, and software verification methodologies.
- Previous experience through internships, research, or project teams.
