About the role#
Bascom Hunter is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team in Greenfield, Indiana. You will support the design, development, analysis, and testing of aerospace and defense systems. This role offers hands-on experience with thermal management, precision rotating machinery, and mechanical packaging. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams on projects ranging from early concepts to final testing and documentation.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
- Create 3D models and mechanical designs using SolidWorks or other CAD tools.
- Perform structural, thermal, and fluid analysis to optimize system performance.
- Assist with thermal system and precision rotating machinery development, including compressor projects.
- Research and formulate solutions to technical engineering challenges.
- Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing.
- Collect and analyze data from experiments and interpret test results.
- Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes for performance, weight, and durability.
- Help build out engineering laboratory and test capabilities.
- Prepare technical documentation such as drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to support integrated system development.
- Ensure designs meet aerospace and defense industry standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Junior or Senior undergraduate standing is preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling software, specifically SolidWorks.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.
- Experience with mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, or testing.
- Knowledge of thermal systems, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or precision rotating machinery.
- Familiarity with aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
- Experience with engineering analysis, simulation tools, programming, or data analysis.
- Previous experience through internships, research, laboratory work, or project teams.
