About the role#
This Nurse Extern position in the Medical ICU offers nursing students the chance to gain clinical experience before graduation. You will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse to practice skills learned in your nursing program. The goal of this program is to prepare students to transition into a New Grad RN role within the same unit after graduation and licensure.
What you'll do#
- Assess patients and perform basic data collection in an EMR.
- Administer medications under the supervision of an RN preceptor.
- Adjust IV pump rates, parenteral fluids, blood products, and IV flushes.
- Initiate, titrate, and discontinue oxygen.
- Participate in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation.
- Observe procedures and collaborate with the clinical care team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program.
- Graduation within one year of your hire date.
- Ability to graduate on your initial anticipated graduation date.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to pass Nursing State Boards within 90 days of graduation.

- Location: Phoenix, Arizona.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Minimum of 12 hours per month, not to exceed 20 hours per week.
- Status: Paid, part-time, rolling term.
