About the role#
Baird, Hampton & Brown is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work alongside professional engineers, EITs, and designers to gain experience in HVAC and plumbing design for a variety of public and private projects. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Fort Worth, Texas.
What you'll do#
- Design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Create mechanical drawings and perform design calculations.
- Conduct code research to support project requirements.
- Perform plumbing design, including domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, roof drainage, gas, and compressed-air systems.
- Design constant and variable volume ductwork.
- Prepare cost estimates, specifications, and design analyses.
- Manage your workload across multiple project types.
- Provide field reports on installed conditions.
- Join engineers on site visits to review existing conditions and ongoing work.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Completion of 12-18 hours of Mechanical engineering coursework.
- Exposure to AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, Autodesk Inventor, HAP, or Trace 700 is a plus.
