About the role#
Avion Solutions, Inc. is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the Propulsion Drives Branch of the Maneuver Air Directorate. This position is based in Huntsville, Alabama, and focuses on the analysis, testing, and documentation of Helicopter Drive Systems. This is a paid, full-time summer 2027 internship.
What you'll do#
- Provide entry-level technical support for engineering projects and sub-systems.
- Review test plans, reports, and technical data to ensure project compliance.
- Assist with engineering test witnessing, hardware inspections, and data collection.
- Review design documentation, engineering change proposals, and technical drawings for accuracy.
- Help with root cause analysis, failure investigations, and defect reporting for mechanical and electrical assemblies.
- Support the review of technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in project reviews, technical syncs, and team meetings.
- Document engineering processes and technical analyses using Microsoft Office tools.
- Conduct information searches and preliminary trade studies to support ongoing projects.
What you'll need#
- You must be a Junior or higher currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- A basic understanding of fundamental engineering principles and system design concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including foundational technical writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to gather data, perform routine calculations, and summarize findings in reports.
- You must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoW security clearance.
- Familiarity with modeling or data visualization software like MATLAB, CAD, ANSYS, or SolidWorks is preferred.
- A strong interest in analytics.
