About the role#
This co-op position offers the chance to work within the Mechanical Engineering Division on technical challenges related to national interest. You will apply engineering principles to design, analyze, and document components while working alongside engineers and technicians. The role involves gaining practical knowledge of engineering processes, facilities, and systems.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and enhance engineering solutions for complex problems.
- Implement, test, and analyze systems while providing documentation support.
- Generate and present test reports that include data analysis, plots, and evaluation criteria.
- Complete assignments to build a practical understanding of equipment, procedures, and interdisciplinary relationships.
- Work with machine shops, rapid prototyping labs, and circuit card assembly facilities to fabricate and assemble prototypes.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
- US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
- Strong computer skills, specifically in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks or Creo.
- Familiarity with prototype fabrication, assembly, and proof-of-concept models.
- Understanding of manufacturability, drawing creation, and tolerancing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong work ethic.
