About the role#
As a Power Electronics Control Intern, you will help design, model, and validate advanced power conversion systems. You will work on AC-DC and DC-DC converters for both low and medium voltage applications. This role involves close collaboration with firmware, hardware, and system engineers to bridge the gap between theoretical control strategies and real-world hardware performance.
What you'll do#
- Model and analyze power converters and control loops.
- Develop and test control strategies for AC-DC and DC-DC converters.
- Characterize system behavior, including stability, transient response, and operating limits.
- Participate in laboratory testing, debugging, and validation of hardware.
- Collect, analyze, and document experimental data.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on development tasks.
- Use industry-standard simulation tools for modeling activities.
- Follow safety protocols when working with high-voltage and high-power systems.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Academic or project experience in power electronics and control systems.
- Understanding of power converter operation and control fundamentals like feedback and stability.
- Ability to solve technical problems and learn new concepts.
- Interest in working hands-on in a laboratory environment.
- Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, or PSIM.
- Programming skills in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with lab equipment like oscilloscopes and power supplies.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is based on-site at our Reno, Nevada or San Francisco, California offices.
- We require you to work on-site 5 days a week.
