About the role#
The Sine Institute of Policy & Politics is hiring an undergraduate student for a part-time Research Assistant position during Summer 2026. This role supports the Institute through programming, research, and communication efforts. It is a paid opportunity for students to gain experience in public policy and higher education administration.
What you'll do#
- Conduct background research on policy issues, political trends, and current events.
- Compile research briefs, summaries, and resource materials for Institute programs.
- Assist with event planning and logistical coordination for Institute activities.
- Promote Institute events, programs, and opportunities to undergraduate students.
- Create content for social media, newsletters, website updates, and promotional materials.
- Support administrative tasks like scheduling meetings and maintaining project timelines.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current undergraduate student in good academic standing at American University.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- An interest in public policy, politics, civic engagement, or communications.
- Preferred experience with social media platforms, Canva, Microsoft Office, or Google Workspace.
Location & details#
- Location: Spring Valley Campus, Washington, DC.
- Modality: Hybrid, with Tuesday and Thursday in-office days required.
- Hours: Part-time, 10 to 15 hours per week.
- Compensation: $19.50 per hour.
- Eligibility: This position is open only to currently enrolled American University students.
