About the role#
The UAA Archives Project Assistant role is a part-time, on-site student position based at the Spring Valley Campus. This role focuses on processing archival collections donated by the USAID Alumni Association. You will work under the supervision of the Associate Archivist to organize, describe, and preserve materials while assisting with administrative tasks and visitor services in the Reading Room.
What you'll do#
- Organize, arrange, and describe new and legacy collections following established standards.
- Perform basic preservation measures and handle archival materials with care.
- Track and document project progress using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Assist office staff with routine administrative functions and welcome visitors to the Archives.
- Retrieve collection materials to support reference requests and maintain staff presence in the Reading Room.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to lift items up to 40 pounds and reach materials on shelves up to seven feet high.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collegially.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and the ability to learn new workflows and technologies.
- Current enrollment as an American University student.
- Preferred background includes studies in History, Political Science, or International Relations, particularly within the School of International Service.
Location & details#
- Location: Spring Valley Campus, Washington, DC.
- Schedule: 10 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
- Compensation: $18.40 per hour.
- Modality: On-site only.
