About the role#
The Investment Accounting team at American National manages the company investment portfolio. This team ensures that all investments are recorded, reconciled, valued, and reported accurately. You will work with experienced accounting professionals to support financial reporting and regulatory compliance. This role provides exposure to investment accounting, including stocks, bonds, and alternative investments, while helping you build a foundation in financial operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with recurring monthly and quarterly accounting and regulatory reporting tasks.
- Prepare and validate reports, including account reconciliations.
- Research investment transactions and maintain supporting documentation.
- Organize audit workpapers and perform data analysis related to investment holdings.
- Support the team in reviewing data quality and routine operational processes.
- Participate in team meetings and receive coaching from professional staff.
- Gain exposure to cross-functional business partners across the organization.
- Work with systems such as SAP, Clearwater, Workiva, and Sovos Wings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college or university with junior standing or higher.
- Pursuit of a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and a commitment to accuracy.

- Location: Houston, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 24 to August 6, with an optional extension to August 13).
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
