About the role#
Ameren Illinois is looking for a Meteorology Intern to join the Crisis Management team for the Summer 2026 term. This role provides hands-on experience in the electric utility industry, focusing on how weather intelligence informs operational decision-making, emergency preparedness, and storm response. You will work alongside professionals in crisis management and utility operations to support situational awareness and enhance weather data capabilities.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories that impact utility operations.
- Prepare daily weather briefings, storm outlooks, and situational awareness reports.
- Analyze forecast models, radar imagery, and meteorological data to identify operational impacts.
- Enhance weather intelligence features within the Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
- Research emerging weather technologies and decision-support resources.
- Support monitoring activities during severe weather and emergency events.
- Assist with post-event analyses and correlate weather data with operational outage information.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climatology, Geography, Environmental Science, Emergency Management, or Environmental Engineering.
- Basic understanding of weather forecasting principles and meteorological analysis.
- Familiarity with National Weather Service products, radar imagery, and forecast data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.

- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2026.
- Preferred locations include Peoria, Springfield, Pawnee, and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
- Work modality includes on-site and hybrid options based on business needs.
